Customer:

Large Midwest food processor

Problem:

Given only had a basic understanding of RFID and the Wal-Mart requirements the customer needed to meet the Wal-Mart RFID case and pallet tagging requirements. After an extensive review process with multiple vendors, Primary Marking was selected due to their RFID knowledge and installed base.

Description:

The customer has multiple production lines in 3 different plants, in 2 different states. Production includes a corrugated line along with 2 spot pack shrink wrapped lines. They previously used preprinted labels to meet Wal-Mart label requirements. Production was determined on the line via hand written production schedules. Shipping labels were hand applied prior to shipping. With production data that currently resides on an AS400 system operating in a yet a fourth location.

Primary Marking supplied solution:

Upon review of the customers' method of operation, product flow, desired level of automation, Wal-Mart requirements and time schedule, we proposed a completely automated system. The system we provided automatically prints, encodes or rejects and applies RFID labels to the products as the cases move down the production line. An RFID reader is used to ensure that all cases are tagged properly. A separate system is used in the warehouse to ensure that the shipping labels are on the correct pallets and to match up pallet tag information to the RFID shipping labels.
A touch screen is used to control the production line end of the system along with interfacing with the customers AS400. A file of the day's production and shipping status is sent to the customers AS400 which the customer can use to send ASN's to Wal-Mart.

Conclusion:

The customer was extremely satisfied with the supplied solution which came in under budget. The customer has seen an increase in business on the products that they are RFID tagging or as well an increase in production efficiencies. Talks have begun on additional locations.
